Start in Kunming, the capital — “City of Eternal Spring” — where flowers bloom year-round and lakes mirror quiet skies. Stroll the paths of Green Lake Park, where students play violin under willows and elders dance slow waltzes at dusk. Visit the Yunnan Nationalities Museum, and you’ll realize Yunnan is not a province — it’s a constellation of over 25 ethnic groups, each with distinct dress, song, and sacred rhythm.

But the story begins where the roads narrow.

Travel north to Dali, an old Bai Kingdom cradled between Cangshan Mountains and Erhai Lake. Try crossing-the-bridge noodles, where steaming broth is poured over rice noodles and thin meats just before eating — a ritual as much as a dish.

And then, there is tea — particularly pu’erh, aged in caves and prized like wine. In Xishuangbanna, tea trees are worshipped, and ceremonies unfold in bamboo pavilions. Walk the ancient Tea Horse Road, once traveled by traders and monks, and feel the past beneath your feet.
